Paramount has decided not to proceed with a second season of the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin”. The show, which aired its first and only season in 2024, was initially announced for renewal in April. However, sources reveal that production had been put on hold from the start, with no plans to shoot a second season.
In contrast, Paramount is planning to open a writers room for a potential Season 2 of “Dexter: Resurrection”, which follows Michael C. Hall’s return as Dexter Morgan. The prequel series was set in 1991 and served as the origin story of the iconic character.
The decision comes after the closing of the Skydance-Paramount merger, with Matt Thunell’s new leadership team focusing on reviving the “Dexter” franchise, particularly Hall’s role. This move suggests that Paramount is prioritizing the revival of the original series over its prequel.
“Dexter: Original Sin” was met with strong viewership and reviews, drawing 4.4 million multiplatform viewers in its first seven days and holding a 94% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, the show’s cancellation is a blow to fans who were eager for more of the prequel series.
