The 77th Annual Directors Guild of America Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, honoring outstanding directing achievements across various film and television categories. Sean Baker won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film for his work on “Anora.” Ramell Ross received the Michael Apted Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Theatrical Feature Film Director for “Nickel Boys.”
Other notable winners included Frederick E.O. Toye, who took home the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series for his work on “Shogun,” and Lucia Anello, who won Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for her work on “Hacks.” Steven Zaillian received the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television and Limited Series for his work on “Ripley.”
The ceremony also honored outstanding directing achievements in various other categories, including Variety/Talk/News/Sports – Regularly Scheduled Programming, Variety/Talk/News/Sports – Specials, Reality Programs, Children’s Programs, and Commercials.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to director Ang Lee, who received the Guild’s highest honor for his distinguished achievement in feature film direction. Mary Rae Thewhlis was honored with the Robert B. Aldrich Service Award, while Thomas J. Whelan received the Frank Capra Achievement Award.
