The Vanderbilt Commodores will kick off the 2025 college baseball season by facing three teams in the MLB Desert Invitational on Presidents Day weekend. The games are scheduled to take place at Grand Canyon National Park and the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ stadium.
On Friday, the Commodores will face the Arizona Lopes, who feature a strong pitcher in Andrew Lyon. On Saturday, they’ll take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers, led by speedster Riley Silva. Sunday’s matchup against UC-Irvine won’t be televised, but Anthony Martinez is expected to make an appearance, having been named to the preseason Golden Spikes Watchlist.
Rounding out the weekend are several talented players with unique names: Scuba Smolinski, Power Bottom Buettenback, and Big Tony Martinez. While some of these players may not see significant action due to eligibility issues or other factors, they’re certainly worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses.
