Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, the largest barbecue chain in the nation, has closed 30 more locations amidst a significant decline in sales. Following nearly 100 closures last fall, the company is restructurering its system to focus on core operations. This move comes as the restaurant industry struggles with declining sales trends, affecting brands like Eegee’s and Red Lobster.
The chain, which once peaked at nearly 570 restaurants across the country, has seen a 5.2% decrease in its market share over the past year alone. According to data from Technomic, about 28% of store locations have closed in just 18 months. The company is now working to strengthen its core before growing again.
Dickey’s plans to implement several changes, including upgraded stores, an updated menu, paid advertisements, and a reimbursement program for operators with positive sales. While the brand faces challenges, it aims to refocus on fine-tuning its operations to ensure long-term success.
