Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared in court on Wednesday for a brief hearing, where prosecutors said they are on track to turn over more evidence to his defense attorneys by the end of the year. Combs has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges.
After the hearing, Combs left the courtroom and wished spectators a “Happy Holidays” as he exited. When leaving, he turned back to acknowledge his lawyers but was stopped by marshals.
When greeting his family members who arrived late, one of his sons responded with a nod and a fist over his heart after asking if he’s “OK.” Combs has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September. He is scheduled for trial on May 5.
Prosecutors said they expect to disclose all available evidence by December 31, citing their intention to avoid delaying the trial date. However, defense attorney Marc Agnifilo expressed concern over the scope of alleged crimes, stating that “the pattern of racketeering activities” is unclear.
Combs had previously abandoned an attempt to be released on bail and faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and prostitution. The federal prosecution alleges Combs coerced women to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct from 2008 to the present.
