Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking case took a new turn on Thursday when one of his attorneys, Anthony Ricco, notified Manhattan federal court that he wants to leave the defense team. In a notice filed with the court, Ricco stated that he could no longer continue as counsel due to “under no circumstances.”
Combs, 55, is currently awaiting trial after pleading not guilty to sex trafficking charges. The rapper faces multiple allegations of coercing victims into drug-fueled performances and intimidating them using blackmail and violence.
Ricco’s decision to leave the defense team does not appear to impact Combs’ upcoming May 5 trial. According to Ricco, he had discussed his departure with the lead attorney and assured that it would not cause a delay in the proceedings. The court still needs to approve Ricco’s exit from the case.
Combs faces additional charges related to sexual assault lawsuits.
