Sean “Diddy” Combs was convicted by a jury of violating the Mann Act, a 115-year-old federal law that prohibits the interstate transport of someone for prostitution or debauchery. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
Combs’ conviction stems from his alleged role in flying women around the country to engage in sexual encounters, which is a violation of the Mann Act. The government claimed that Combs coerced women into participating in abusive sex parties with hired male sex workers and silenced them through blackmail and violence.
The prosecution estimated that Combs would likely face a prison term over four years, while his defense team believes it will be much lower, around two years. The maximum possible sentence is 10 years in prison, but the judge will have discretion in determining the final sentence.
Combs’ lawyer portrayed him as a victim of overzealous prosecutors who exaggerated his lifestyle and recreational drug use to bring charges. However, the jury did not believe this defense, and Combs was found guilty on one count.
