Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, is facing a federal trial on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The four-part Investigation Discovery series “The Fall of Diddy” delves into Combs’ history of alleged abusive and destructive behavior, which dates back to the late 1980s. Directors Yoruba Richen and Emma Schwartz interviewed over two dozen people, including journalists, investigative reporters, and those who crossed paths with Combs over the decades.
Allegations against Combs include threatening a former editor-in-chief with death after an altercation over a magazine cover shoot, offering his driver a bribe to lie about the circumstances of a shooting at a nightclub in 1999, and assaulting music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones on multiple occasions. A former girlfriend, Kat Pasion, also accuses Combs of forcing her into a non-consensual sex act.
The documentary series features disturbing surveillance camera footage from 2016 showing Combs assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a California hotel. Richen described the footage as “some of the most shocking and upsetting” she has ever seen. Combs’ legal team maintains that he is innocent, but the series provides context to Combs’ history and behavior, which may influence public perception of the case.
Combs’ trial is set to begin on May 5. The documentary serves as a precursor to the trial, offering a deeper understanding of Combs’ past actions and their potential impact on his current case.
