Diddy’s Trial Delay Denied, Lawyers Seek More Time for Defense

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for a two-month delay in his sex-trafficking case was denied by a federal judge on Friday. The trial, scheduled to begin on May 5, will now proceed with Combs’ defense team having only about three weeks to prepare.

Combs’ lawyers argued that they had not received sufficient time to review the latest charges against him, which include forced labor and kidnapping. The defense claims they were not given access to all necessary evidence until just days before the trial.

The legal team requested 200,000 documents from the government regarding witness communications, but prosecutors object to the request, accusing Diddy’s lawyers of “gamesmanship.” The judge has ordered the government to turn over full documents via thumb drive or face a possible adjournment or subpoena.

Combs was hit with two new charges in an April 3 superseding indictment, alleging he engaged in sex-trafficking and racketeering from 2021 to 2024. He pleaded not guilty to the original charges on March 14. The prosecution claims Combs forced employees to work long hours by threatening them with physical or reputational harm.

The judge’s decision leaves Combs’ legal team with a tight deadline to prepare for the trial, which could result in a minimum of 15 years behind bars if he is found guilty of all charges.
