Digital-first media companies continue to outpace traditional TV-based media, according to Nielsen’s latest measurement. In July, YouTube led the pack with a 13.4% share, up 10.4% from last year. Netflix took third place with an 8.8% share, growing by 215,000 viewers and outperforming all other platforms in terms of average minute audience gains.
Roku Channel saw significant growth, rising to 2.8%, while Amazon’s share remained steady at 3.9%. YouTube’s lead was followed closely by Walt Disney, which fell 9.4% from the previous month. The rest of the top TV networks experienced declines in viewership, with NBCUniversal falling the most to 7.6%.
In contrast, smaller cable TV network groups showed minimal changes, with Scripps and Weigel Broadcasting remaining stable at 2.2%. Hallmark and AMC Networks saw slight decreases as well, dropping to 1.1% and 0.8%, respectively. This shift further solidifies digital media companies’ dominance in the streaming landscape.
