Discovering the Heart of the Northside Community

Growing up in the Northside was like being part of a vibrant tapestry. I, Donny “Chris” Campbell, was raised by my single mother and abuelita, who taught me the value of hard work, family, and community. Our neighborhood is culturally rich and proud, with a story that breathes through us.

I walked the halls of local schools, including Dolores Huerta Elementary and North Side High School. After high school, I pursued a business degree and now study political science at Texas Christian University. My familia’s entrepreneurial spirit is evident in our community – my younger sister runs The Purple Carnation Boutique, another great example of innovation.

Volunteering at the Northside Inter-Community Agency helped me develop a sense of social responsibility. Today, I serve on a committee for the Historic Northside District, where we support small businesses and preserve our heritage. Faith has always been a guiding force in my life, and I cherish memories with my family, including Sunday Mass at All Saints Catholic Church.

The Northside is known for its kindness and generosity. From my mom’s selflessness to my abuelita’s warmth, this spirit lives on in our streets and small businesses. We’ve had leaders like Louis Zapata and Sal Espino, who have left lasting legacies. I invite you to experience the Northside – shop our local stores, taste our cuisine, and meet the people who make this community thrive.

The Northside is a place where everyone feels welcome, and I’m proud to call it my home. Come visit us and discover why we say “Mi lado norte es tu lado norte” – My side of the Northside is your side of the Northside.
