Disney will acquire full control of streaming service Hulu for approximately $439 million, following an appraisal process that has taken years to complete. The company had initially agreed to pay at least $8.6 billion for a 33% stake in the platform.
Since taking over as Hulu’s operator in 2019, Disney has seen the company evolve into a major player in the streaming market. In 2007, Hulu was launched as an online platform backed by entertainment conglomerates aiming to combat internet viewing habits.
With Disney’s acquisition, the company now gains majority control of the business, following its previous purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The deal is expected to close by July 24 and will not impact Disney’s fiscal 2025 adjusted earnings forecast.
