Disney to Stream Beloved Children’s Show CoComelon Exclusively

The Walt Disney Company has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to “CoComelon,” previously held by Netflix. Every season of the popular children’s show will be available on Disney+ starting in 2027, the same year Universal Pictures plans to release a “CoComelon” film produced by DreamWorks.

Disney reportedly paid tens of millions of dollars annually for the streaming rights. “CoComelon” was once the second-most watched Netflix program in 2024 after “Bridgerton.” The show’s YouTube channel boasts an impressive 193 million subscribers, created by Jay Jeon in 2006 and later rebranded as “CoComelon.”

Moonbug Entertainment, owned by former Disney executives, previously held the rights to the show. However, Disney has also licensed several seasons of Moonbug’s other popular properties, including “Little Angel” and “JJ’s Animal Time.”

Despite the move, “CoComelon” videos will continue to be posted on YouTube, while “CoComelon Lane” remains available on Netflix. Another popular children’s show, “Blippi,” recently filmed specials at Disney World and on a Disney cruise line, marking its exclusive streaming deal with Netflix.

The acquisition marks another significant shift in Disney’s content strategy as it continues to expand its reach through various platforms.
