Disney has announced significant restructuring efforts across its ABC News and Disney Entertainment Networks units, impacting nearly 6% of staff. The company is cutting under 200 employees, with most working at ABC News in New York.
As part of the overhaul, Disney plans to dissolve its popular political polling website, 538, and merge three shows: “20/20,” “Nightline,” and “Impact x Nightline.” The layoffs are aimed at minimizing disruptions while promoting resource management and efficiency.
Disney’s production strategy for “Good Morning America” is also undergoing a change, with all three branded shows now overseen by one individual. The head of the new production team is Simone Swink, who has been working on “GMA” since 2010.
Meanwhile, Disney’s stock price saw a slight dip after reporting a 44% increase in adjusted per-share earnings for its October-December quarter. The company is focusing on reducing costs as it competes with streaming services, but the restructuring efforts aim to boost efficiency and profitability.
