Disney appears to be walking back its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies after a recent investor report failed to mention the company’s “Reimagine Tomorrow” program. The program aimed to amplify underrepresented voices and untold stories in media and entertainment.
In November, Disney’s SEC report shortened its DEI section, only mentioning three initiatives: an executive incubator program, a U.S. military veteran initiative, and employee-led groups. This marks a significant change from previous reports that highlighted the Reimagine Tomorrow program.
The decision comes amidst criticism of DEI programs, including from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who accused Disney of “mandatory, institutionalized racism and sexism.” Some companies, such as Meta, have also publicly announced an end to their own programs.
Reimagine Tomorrow’s website, which was still online as of Monday, described the program as a way to amplify underrepresented voices and champion accurate representation in media. However, the program faced criticism in 2022 after a leaked recording revealed Disney executives’ views on LGBTQ+ content.
The Walt Disney Company has not commented on the apparent dropping of the Reimagine Tomorrow program.
