Disney World is set to expand its hotel rooms to meet growing demand. The Walt Disney Company now has the necessary space and approvals to build more hotels at its Florida resort. A new planning document confirms plans for up to 13,000 new hotel rooms by 2045.
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, a special taxing district that manages Disney World’s municipal services, has approved an updated comprehensive plan. This plan includes data on future development and outlines the potential for new theme parks, resorts, and hotels.
According to projections, overnight guest numbers are expected to increase from 102,183 in 2025 to 139,461 by 2045. This would bring an average daily occupancy of around 85,000 guests. The district’s existing land has already seen significant development, with over 6,000 hotel rooms opened and 1,384 demolished or remodeled since 2011.
Currently, 1,240 hotel rooms are under construction, with 250 more approved for construction. A new resort near Wilderness Lodge is also planned, which could add nearly 1,000 rooms to the property. Construction on a new resort at the former River Country water park site has also been restarted after being put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While this news confirms Disney’s plans for expansion, it does not guarantee the arrival of new parks and attractions over the next two decades. The company is focusing on providing more places for visitors to stay, rather than necessarily adding new facilities.
