Disney, YouTube TV Dispute Enters 2nd Weekend

A contract dispute between Disney and YouTube TV continues, leaving 10 million subscribers without access to ABC, ESPN, and other channels since October 30. Disney’s stock fell over 7% due to the ongoing dispute. Traditional carriage disputes are usually resolved quickly, but this one seems out of the norm, especially during football season. The key obstacle in negotiations is determining how much YouTube TV should pay for Disney’s non-sports networks. Subscribers can try alternative services like DirecTV Stream ($49.99/month), Fubo TV ($45.99/month), and Sling TV’s “Day Pass” ($4.99/24 hours) to watch ESPN and ABC. The outcome remains uncertain, with Disney CEO Bob Iger warning that the dispute could be lengthy.
