Novak Djokovic has finally achieved his 100th career singles title by coming from behind to beat Hubert Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) at the Geneva Open. The victory marked a historic milestone for the Serbian tennis great, who is now just one of three men in the Open era with over 100 tournament wins.
Djokovic’s triumph came after a grueling match that lasted over three hours, two days after his 38th birthday. Despite trailing at times, he dug deep and ultimately broke Hurkacz’s serve to take the lead in the deciding set.
“It was tough but I’m just grateful to clinch the 100 here,” Djokovic said after the match. “I had to work for it.”
The win marks a significant milestone for Djokovic, who joins Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer as the only men with over 100 singles titles. He will now head back to Paris looking to add to his Grand Slam singles titles.
Djokovic’s 100th title came nearly 19 years after his first in July 2006, on clay at Amersfoort in the Netherlands. His opponent, Hurkacz, praised Djokovic’s dedication and inspiration off the court.
“I don’t know how I broke your serve,” Djokovic said about his winner against Hurkacz, which sealed the victory.
The win is also notable for being Djokovic’s first title in 20 seasons, marking a significant resurgence in his career.
