Djokovic Struggles with Injury Ahead of Australian Open Semifinal

Novak Djokovic is facing an uncertain future after suffering an injury during his quarter-final victory against Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open. The former world No 1 appeared to strain his groin or hamstring during the match, which he described as a similar injury he experienced in 2023.

Djokovic will face Alexander Zverev in the semifinals on Friday with a close to three-day rest period between matches. Despite being concerned about his physical condition, Djokovic is motivated and said he’s “as good as I can be” mentally and emotionally.

The injury occurred during the first set when Djokovic made a lateral movement during a rally and was treated by physio on court. He lost the first set but quickly recovered and went on to win three sets against Alcaraz.

Djokovic received painkillers during the match, which helped alleviate his discomfort, but he will need to assess his condition further when the medication wears off. In a post-match interview, Djokovic praised the high-energy match against Alcaraz, describing it as “fueled like it was finals of a slam.”

The Australian Open semifinals are set to take place on Friday, with Djokovic’s injury status remaining uncertain until then.
