Do Hyeong Kwon, the 33-year-old Korean national behind the collapse of cryptocurrency Luna and stablecoin TerraUSD, has been extradited to the US after a lengthy battle. Kwon was arrested in March 2023 while attempting to flee with fake travel documents.
After serving time in Montenegro prison, Kwon fought extradition to Korea and the US, but on December 31, 2024, he was finally handed over to US authorities. He appeared before a federal judge in New York City, where he pleaded “not guilty” to fraud charges.
The US Justice Department credited its international partnerships for securing the extradition, saying Kwon attempted to use fraudulent means to evade capture. A massive indictment unsealed today alleges five key ways Do Kwon defrauded investors, resulting in over $40 billion in losses.
