Dodge CEO Confirms Hemi V-8 Return in New Charger Model

Dodge CEO Matt McAlear has effectively confirmed the return of a Hellcat V-8 engine in future models, including the iconic Charger. In response to queries about the feasibility of the powerful engine being installed in the existing platform, McAlear responded by saying “Don’t be surprised if it would fit.” This statement implies that Dodge is considering adding the Hemi powertrain to its lineup, which contradicts previous claims that it was too large for the engine bay.

The comment comes as a result of changes in regulatory policies under the Trump administration, allowing automakers more freedom to produce gas-guzzling engines without fear of penalties. With this new environment, Dodge is taking advantage by flexing into ICE production and exploring new powertrain options.

While the company has not announced any plans to drop the Charger Daytona EV, it’s clear that demand for combustion-powered vehicles remains strong. As a result, Dodge is accelerating development of the straight-six-powered Charger Sixpack, which will hit dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year at a significantly lower price point than its electric counterpart.

No official pricing or release date for a V-8-powered Charger have been disclosed yet, but industry experts expect it to arrive sooner rather than later. With the success of the Hemi Ram 1500, which has seen an explosion in demand, Stellantis executives are likely to capitalize on this trend across other models, including the Charger.

An official announcement is expected before the end of the year, providing more clarity on this exciting development for Dodge enthusiasts.
