Dodge Unveils Gas-Powered Charger After EV Sales Lag Behind Expectations

Dodge has unveiled a new gas-powered version of its iconic Charger muscle car, nearly two years after introducing an electrified powertrain. The Sixpack-equipped Charger comes in two performance levels: the 420-horsepower RT and the 550-horsepower Scat Pack. The Scat Pack promises a 3.9-second 0-60 time and a top speed of 177 mph.

The new Charger boasts nearly identical styling to its electrified counterpart, with notable changes including a hood scoop and front-end design tweaks. Dodge CEO Matt McAlear aims for a top speed record for the high-output version.

The gas-powered Charger’s introduction comes after slow sales of its EV counterpart. Since its electrification in 2024, only 4,299 units have been sold in the US market. In response to these lukewarm reception, Dodge has adjusted its lineup by putting the RT model on hiatus and focusing on the higher-performance Daytona Scat Pack.

The new gas-powered Charger will be available at dealerships in two variants: a two-door Scat Pack and a four-door R/T. Pricing starts at $49,995 for the base RT and $54,995 for the high-performance Scat Pack. Expectations are that options such as “demonic red” seats, panoramic sun roofs, and carbon fiber accents will be available to customize the vehicle.

The arrival of this new gas-powered Charger marks a shift back towards its heritage as a performance-driven muscle car.
