The Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled South Korean All-Star Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City, placing second baseman Tommy Edman on the injured list due to a sore right ankle. Edman’s injury creates an opportunity for Kim to make his major league debut.
Manager Dave Roberts stated that Edman will spend at least 10 days on the injured list and can come off the bench to fill in at certain spots. He expects Kim to start, citing the player’s versatility as a middle infielder, outfielder, and pinch-runner as a factor in the team’s decision.
Kim has played eight seasons in South Korea and recently demonstrated his skills with the Kiwoom Heroes. In 28 games with Oklahoma City, he hit .252 with five home runs, 19 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases. With Chris Taylor starting at second base on Saturday night, Kim was available off the bench.
