Dodgers Swept Tigers in World Series Opener

The Los Angeles Dodgers secured a convincing 7-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers in their World Series opener, capping off a dominant 5-0 sweep of the series. Roki Sasaki struggled with his control, issuing three walks and uncorking two wild pitches before being pulled from the game.

Despite Sasaki’s struggles, the Dodgers’ offense rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the second inning. Andy Pages singled, Michael Conforto doubled, and Pages scored on a run-scoring single off Detroit’s Reese Olson. The Tigers took the lead back in the fifth but the Dodgers regained control behind strong performances from Will Smith (his first World Series home run) and Luis Garcia.

The game was all but out of hand by the seventh inning when Tommy Edman homered for his third time in the series, making it 6-3. Freddie Freeman doubled to drive in two more runs, securing a commanding 7-3 lead for the Dodgers. The team’s bullpen shone, with Kirby Yates striking out three batters in the eighth and Blake Treinen allowing just one hit in the ninth.

The Dodgers are now on track for a World Series title, as Jack Flaherty took his first ring.
