Doechii’s “Anxiety” Surges to No. 3 on Hot 100 Amid Viral Revival

Rapper/singer Doechii has seen her song “Anxiety” experience a double dose of success on the Billboard charts, as it appears on two different versions of the track and benefits from a viral revival. The song’s chart performance has been fueled by its prominent sampling of Gotye’s 2012 hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” featuring Kimbra.

In 2019, Doechii recorded “Anxiety” for her mixtape, which prominently samples Gotye’s hit single. However, it wasn’t until recent weeks that the song gained widespread attention on TikTok, where users began soundtracking its chorus to a famous scene from Will Smith’s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The hashtag #ANXIETYChallenge quickly went viral, with user @mimeemzyy posting the trend’s kick-off clip.

As a result, streams for Doechii’s solo version of “Anxiety” surged to new heights, cracking 10.5 million U.S. official on-demand streams in just one week. The song debuted on several charts this week, including No. 45 on the Hot 100, No. 11 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and No. 8 on Hot Rap Songs.

The viral-backed surge also prompted Doechii to re-release her solo version of “Anxiety” to all digital and streaming retailers, which sparked a further push to No. 3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. According to preliminary reports, the song is expected to reach the full tracking week, potentially landing at No. 1.

Doechii’s success comes as she continues to ride high on her latest wins, including a Grammy Award for best rap album and performance on the telecast. Her upcoming role as 2025 Woman of the Year at Billboard’s Women in Music celebration in Los Angeles is also set to cement her status as one of the industry’s top talents.
