Dolby Atmos Speakers Now More Home-Friendly with TCL Partnership

Dolby Atmos audio technology has long been a premium option for home theaters, but its implementation requires careful speaker placement and calibration. This can be a challenge, especially when dealing with furniture that gets in the way.

To address this issue, Dolby is introducing FlexConnect technology, a new solution that aims to make Atmos sound more accessible to homeowners. The company is partnering with TCL to bring a smart, wireless speaker system called Z100, designed specifically for use with TCL’s QD-Mini LED TVs.

The TCL Z100 speaker is cylindrical in shape and can be placed anywhere in the room, allowing users to easily position it without worrying about damaging the furniture. Dolby’s FlexConnect technology will then “intelligently optimize” the sound based on the speaker’s location, providing an immersive Atmos experience.

The Z100 system can accommodate one to four speakers, scaling itself up as needed, and is compatible with a range of TCL TVs. However, it’s essential to note that this setup won’t work with existing home speakers or older A/V receivers.

While the pricing and initial setup process are still unclear, Dolby promises that it will be “simple and fast.” For average users seeking an affordable solution for enveloping Atmos audio without requiring extensive setup or renovation, FlexConnect may prove effective.
