Dolphins Keep Playoff Hopes Alive with Win Over 49ers

The Miami Dolphins kept their playoff hopes alive with a 29-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The Dolphins, who are now 7-8, will need to win their final two games and get help from losses by the Broncos and Chargers to make the postseason.

Cornerback Kader Kohou’s interception of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy late in the game helped seal the victory. Tua Tagovailoa threw for 215 yards and a touchdown, while Jason Sanders kicked five field goals.

The Dolphins’ win came after the 49ers were eliminated from the postseason before the game due to wins by the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders earlier Sunday. Coach Kyle Shanahan said he found out about his team’s elimination after the game.

San Francisco struggled with penalties, which gave Miami 25 yards on consecutive penalties for illegal substitution, unnecessary roughness, and offsides. The Dolphins then set up Sanders’ 48-yard field goal to stretch their lead to five. The 49ers were penalized 11 times total for 90 yards.

Kohou’s interception helped seal the win, and Dolphins running back De’Von Achane sealed it with a 50-yard touchdown run. Coach Kyle Campbell said his team still has fight left in them, and they will keep believing and fighting as long as they are alive.

The Dolphins moved into 49ers territory three times in the first half but settled for field goals before Jaylen Waddle’s injury. Tyreek Hill had a poor game, catching just 3 of 7 targets for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Miami needs to win their final two games to make the postseason, while the 49ers will host Detroit next Monday.
