Tua Tagovailoa delivered another disappointing performance, adding to the growing concern about his ability to lead the Miami Dolphins in critical games.
In Sunday’s must-win game against the Houston Texans, the Dolphins’ offense struggled, with three interceptions and one fumble lost by Tagovailoa. The quarterback’s poor play contributed to a 20-12 loss, eliminating the Dolphins from playoff contention.
Tagovailoa’s performance was lackluster, despite being expected to put on a show in a game where the rushing attack was limp and the offensive line featured two backups. The fifth-year quarterback threw two interceptions in scoring territory, including one that sealed the game with a turnover.
“I had the opportunity to drive our offense to potentially tie the game up and that’s not what I did,” Tagovailoa said after the game. “That’s not how you win games in this league. I’m very disappointed with how I played today.”
The Dolphins’ inability to execute on critical downs and in scoring territory has become a recurring theme, despite having a capable quarterback in Tagovailoa. The team’s record against playoff teams is 3-17 under Mike McDaniel, and their struggles will only worsen unless the franchise builds a stronger supporting cast around Tagovailoa.
As Tyreek Hill noted, “Real men own their mistakes, get better from it, and move on from it.” For the Dolphins to regain confidence, they need to work on building a more consistent offense and defense. Until then, Tua’s performances will continue to raise questions about his ability to lead the team to victory.
