Domhnall Gleeson is set to star in the upcoming Office spinoff series The Paper, alongside Sabrina Impacciatore. In an interview with PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of Fountain of Youth, Gleeson revealed that he spoke with John Krasinski and Steve Carell about taking on a role in the show.
Gleeson, 42, was advised to accept the role by both Krasinski and Carell, who praised Greg Daniels, the developer of The Office and The Paper. “His big advice that he gave me was to do it,” Gleeson said of Krasinski’s simple yet effective guidance.
Carell previously confirmed his involvement in the project, stating that he knew Gleeson would be a great fit for the lead role. The Paper follows the staff of a dying Midwestern newspaper as they band together to keep journalism alive.
Gleeson will star alongside Impacciatore and Oscar Nuñez reprising his role as Oscar Martinez. The series is set to premiere in September on Peacock, with Gleeson playing Ned and Impacciatore as Esmerelda.
