Donatella Versace Steps Down as Creative Director, Takes Global Ambassador Role

After nearly 30 years at the helm of Versace, Donatella Versace has officially stepped down as creative director to become global ambassador, marking the end of an era in fashion.

Donatella Versace, 69, took over the brand following her brother Gianni’s murder in 1997 and has since been instrumental in shaping Versace’s identity. Under her leadership, the brand expanded globally while staying true to its bold, glamorous aesthetic. The news was confirmed on Instagram, where Donatella announced Dario Vitale would take over as chief creative officer starting April 1, 2025.

In a statement, Donatella expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with her design team and employees over three decades. She will remain a passionate supporter of Versace in her new role as global ambassador, citing that the brand is “in my DNA and always in my heart.”

Dario Vitale, who previously worked at Miu Miu, has expressed his honor and gratitude for being entrusted with the creative direction of Versace. He looks forward to contributing to the brand’s future growth and global impact through his vision and expertise.

Donatella’s departure comes amid changes at Capri Holdings, which acquired Versace in 2018. The news marks a turning point for the iconic fashion house, leaving fans eager to see what’s next for both Versace and Donatella.
