Donkey Kong Bananza director Kazuya Takahashi has acknowledged occasional performance issues reported by press and players. The developer prioritized “fun and playability” over smooth gameplay, using effects like hit-stop and slow motion to emphasize impacts.
Takahashi explained that the game’s voxel technology can cause minor drops in performance during large-scale changes. However, overall, the game is smooth, and these issues are balanced by fun and playful elements.
As a new hire at Nintendo in 2020, Takahashi drew inspiration from classic Donkey Kong games like Donkey Kong Jr. and Country. He aimed to incorporate unique mechanics and add a sense of destruction.
Donkey Kong Bananza will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17, featuring series character Pauline joining DK’s adventure. The game promises to be an entertaining experience through its various ideas and mechanics.
