Donut manufacturer FGF Brands has addressed its recent voluntary recall of dozens of baked goods due to potential listeria contamination. The company, which owns several brands and distributes its products to various retailers, initially initiated the recall on January 7, impacting over 2 million cases of donuts produced on or before December 13, 2024.
FGF Brands has assured consumers that its products are safe for consumption and that the recalled items have been removed from the market. The company stated that the voluntary recall was a precautionary measure based on non-product related findings at one of its facilities in the US and that no donuts or food contact surfaces tested positive for listeria.
FGF Brands emphasized that all donuts are completely safe to eat, and the recalled items were only affected by the specific batch produced on or before December 13, 2024. The company also clarified that the recall did not implicate any currently available products in the market.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that listeria monocytogenes can cause an infection known as listeriosis, which is most dangerous for pregnant people, newborns, individuals with weakened immune systems, and adults 65 or older. The CDC advises consumers to avoid contaminated foods, especially high-risk ones like unpasteurized dairy products, soft cheeses, raw or undercooked meats, and ready-to-eat deli meats unless they are reheated until steaming hot.
