Dozens Dead in Kazakhstan Plane Crash

At least 38 people were killed and dozens injured when a passenger plane from Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan on Wednesday morning. The aircraft, carrying 69 people, was flying from Baku to Grozny when it was rerouted due to fog.

Preliminary reports suggest the crash may have been caused by a bird strike leading to engine failure. An investigation is underway, with authorities from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Russia working together to determine the cause of the accident.

The plane was carrying passengers and crew from various countries, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Many of those injured are in critical condition, and emergency response teams have been deployed to the crash site.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev canceled his planned attendance at a meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, following the crash, and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. Russian President Vladimir Putin also offered support, dispatching a team with medical personnel and equipment from his own Emergencies Ministry.
