Dozens Killed in Israeli Attack on Northern Gaza

At least 50 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a building in northern Gaza Strip, according to Hamas-controlled health authority. The victims included staff members from a nearby clinic, as well as babies who died from hypothermia due to harsh winter conditions.

The Israeli military initially did not comment on the incident but later stated that one of its soldiers was killed during clashes with Palestinian militants in the area. Palestinian media reported an airstrike hit homes in Gaza City, killing at least nine people and injuring several others.

Aid organizations have repeatedly warned about the dire living conditions facing displaced families in Gaza during winter months, with nearly 1 million people lacking adequate shelter. The UN estimates around 2 million Gazans have been forced to flee their homes multiple times due to ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, sparked condemnation by praying at a contested Jerusalem religious site, violating an agreement with Muslim authorities. The incident highlights the escalating tensions in the region.

The attacks on Gaza have resulted in over 45,300 deaths since October 2023, according to Palestinian figures. Reporters Without Borders has reported that Israeli strikes have made Gaza the world’s deadliest place to work as a journalist, with at least 141 journalists killed in the Israel-Gaza war so far.
