Dr. Ralph Abraham Nominated for CDC Leadership Role

Dr. Ralph Abraham, who as Louisiana’s former surgeon general, ordered health officials to stop promoting mass vaccination, has been named principal deputy director at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In his previous role, Abraham instructed health department staff to stop promoting vaccines for preventable illnesses, citing a need to “discuss the risks and benefits of vaccination with their provider.” This decision came days after the CDC revised its website on vaccines and autism to state that “vaccines do not cause autism is not an evidence-based claim.” Abraham’s appointment raises concerns about his views on vaccination, which some see as aligned with those of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” rhetoric.
