Drag x Drive’s Joy-Con Quirks Mar Its Smooth Motion Control Promise

Nintendo’s latest Switch 2 exclusive, Drag x Drive, promises to deliver an innovative and addictive experience with its mouse-controlled sports gameplay. However, the game’s reliance on Joy-con mice and motion controls is marred by frustrating technical issues and design flaws.

While the idea of navigating a small court in wheelchairs using individual Joy-con mice sounds ingenious, the execution falls short due to awkward dual mouse controls and disconnections that hinder smooth gameplay. The shallow offering, with limited character customization and no in-game chat, may deter some players.

A few rounds can provide a satisfying tactile experience, but the game’s shallow package and lack of polish make it difficult to fully enjoy. With its demanding control scheme exacerbating existing design flaws, Drag x Drive fails to capture the magic that made Wii Sports a launch title for the Nintendo Wii.

Despite its charm and novelty, Drag x Drive is unlikely to leave a lasting impression on players due to its numerous shortcomings. Its release on August 14th may provide an opportunity for Nintendo to refine the game in the future, but for now, it’s hard not to view it as a cautionary tale of what happens when innovative ideas are rushed to market without proper testing and refinement.

As critics often say, “it feels like buying a Beyblade set because you just want to feel what it’s like to let it rip.” Drag x Drive may deliver on that initial tactile experience, but its overall lack of depth and polish makes it a shallow package that struggles to leave a lasting mark.
