Drake Maye Named Starting QB for New England Patriots

Drake Maye will start as the quarterback for the New England Patriots in their season finale against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 5th. Despite being listed on the injury report due to an issue with his right throwing hand, offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt expressed confidence in Maye’s readiness for the game.

Van Pelt stated that Maye “looked good yesterday” and will play the entire game. The coach emphasized that this opportunity allows Maye to build on his experience against a familiar opponent, having played the Bills just two weeks prior.

Maye himself expressed readiness to start, saying he’s preparing as if he’s the starter. His physical status has been a topic of discussion, particularly after briefly exiting last Saturday’s game due to a concussion check. However, Maye showed no symptoms and returned to play without issue.

Head coach Jerod Mayo had previously mentioned that Maye would play if healthy and ready to go, adding some uncertainty to the situation. Nevertheless, Van Pelt downplayed concerns about their draft outlook, focusing on winning the game. The Patriots will face the Bills at 1 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium.
