Actress Drew Barrymore has spoken candidly about raising her two daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, without a traditional family dynamic due to her divorce from ex-husband Will Kopelman.
Barrymore recently shared her experiences on The Drew Barrymore Show with Frank Zappa’s daughter Moon Zappa, discussing the challenges of being a single mom in an interview about her new book. She acknowledged that she often felt pressured to be a perfect mother, beating herself up over every little thing.
The actress reflected on how growing up without stability at home influenced her parenting style. Barrymore recalled feeling jealous of kids whose parents were more involved and would call them from school when they were sick.
However, after becoming a mom, Barrymore realized that she had the chance to create a better childhood for her daughters than she ever experienced as a child herself. She felt humbled by this new responsibility and vowed to get it right.
“I found out I was having girls, and I thought, ‘Okay, I’m doing this differently,'” Barrymore said. “I realized that everything in my life had led me to be on this planet to raise girls.” With time, she gained confidence in her abilities as a mother, embracing the unique challenges of raising two young girls without a traditional family dynamic.
