DuckDuckGo Expands AI Capabilities in Browser Search

DuckDuckGo has introduced new AI-powered search features in its browser, providing users with private, useful, and optional tools. The company is expanding the capabilities of its browser to bring more advanced chatbots and improved functionality.

Users can access the Duck.ai feature by clicking on the optional chat icons within the search engine or browsers, or using the “!AI” or “!chat” commands in any search query. The AI-powered answers will be available over 20% of the time, depending on user preference.

DuckDuckGo’s latest updates include upgraded models from OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as a new Recent Chats feature that stores conversations locally on the device. The company has also improved sources across the web and added English-language queries outside the US.

According to DuckDuckGo, users have different preferences when it comes to using chat mode versus traditional search results. To cater to these preferences, the company is offering both options, with an easy switch between them. Users can choose how much AI they want in their searches from “Never” to “On-demand,” “Sometimes,” or “Often.”

The new features are available for free and do not require a log-in. However, users may encounter a daily limit for chatting with the platform. In the future, DuckDuckGo might introduce a paid plan for access to higher limits and more advanced chat models.
