Ducks Acquire Goalie Ville Husso from Detroit Red Wings

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired goaltender Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations. This move comes after starter John Gibson left Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins due to an injury. The 30-year-old Husso will initially be sent to the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League.

Husso, who is playing out the final days of a three-year contract with Detroit, has struggled with consistency throughout his career. Despite being a popular trade target, he has only played in over 56 games once, during the 2022-23 season when he won 26 games for the Red Wings.

The decision to send Husso to the AHL comes after the Red Wings shifted their focus to veterans Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon earlier this season. Although his performance was not impressive during the 4 Nations Face-Off break, Husso’s expiring deal made him a viable trade option.
