Ducks Acquire Goalie Ville Husso in Post-Injury Move

The Anaheim Ducks have bolstered their goalie depth by acquiring netminder Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings. The deal, made on Monday, comes two days after teammate John Gibson suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday’s game.

Husso, 30, was released by Detroit as they cleared $3.6 million in cap space. He has had a struggling season so far, posting a .866 save percentage and 3.69 goals-against average in nine games. However, Husso showed promise in the AHL with a .912 save percentage and 2.70 GAA in 13 games with Grand Rapids.

The Finnish goalie has a strong record in his NHL career, holding a 70-45-18 record with seven shutouts over five seasons. Despite this, the Red Wings’ tenure was marked by inconsistency, partly due to injuries and health issues.

Gibson’s injury is not considered a major concern, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. The Ducks have added depth ahead of the trade deadline on March 7, which Husso will report to their AHL affiliate in San Diego.
