The Anaheim Ducks have acquired goaltender Petr Mrázek from the Detroit Red Wings, sending goaltender John Gibson to Detroit as part of the trade. The deal marks a significant change for both players and teams.
General Manager Pat Verbeek expressed gratitude towards Gibson, stating that he is grateful for his time with the organization, which spanned over a decade. Verbeek praised Gibson’s dedication to the community and wished him and his family the best in their next chapter.
Petr Mrázek brings 428 career NHL games under his belt, with a record of 180-176-40 and 26 shutouts. The Czech goaltender has played for several teams, including Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, Carolina, and Philadelphia.
Mrázek also boasts an impressive international resume, representing the Czech Republic in three World Championships and winning a gold medal at the 2024 tournament. He won a Calder Cup championship with Grand Rapids in 2013.
The trade marks a new chapter for Gibson, who has appeared in 506 career NHL games with Anaheim, posting a record of 204-217-63 and 24 shutouts. Gibson represented the United States at several international tournaments and played for Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
The Ducks are looking to bolster their goaltending depth, while Detroit is seeking to improve its back-end in exchange for a player they believe will provide a fresh start for Mrázek.
