The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is set to launch a new, invite-only conference called “iicon” in April 2026, with the goal of bridging the gap between the gaming industry and other sectors shaped by advances in video games. The event aims to bring together experts from film, music, healthcare, education, and more.
According to ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis, “This is not the new E3.” Unlike traditional trade shows with game announcements, demos, or forums for game development, iicon will focus on showcasing the broader impact of video games across various industries.
Confirmed participants include major game developers like Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft. The event’s connection to Hollywood is also evident, given partnerships between game publishers and studios behind critically acclaimed titles like The Last of Us.
The inclusion of music industry heavyweights like Travis Scott and Ariana Grande further highlights the conference’s diverse lineup. Even in healthcare, video games are being used in innovative ways, such as training surgeons using mixed-reality VR or treating conditions like ADHD and Alzheimer’s through game-based prescriptions.
While details on speakers and panels remain scarce, Pierre-Louis emphasizes that iicon’s schedule will reflect this new purpose and audience. The event’s invite-only format allows for a curated gathering of industry leaders, with the aim of fostering meaningful connections between sectors.
