EA Closes Origin App, Replaces with New EA App, Leaving 32-Bit Users Stranded

EA has finally decided to shut down its long-maligned Origin app, citing it’s being replaced by a new app that also faces criticism for its clunky interface and limited compatibility. The transition won’t be seamless, especially for users running 32-bit versions of Windows or Mac.

For those on 64-bit machines, the change might seem minor, but the real issues arise when trying to access games purchased through Origin. Users with older systems – specifically those still running 32-bit Windows or Mac – will face significant problems. Even if they upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows, the process can be daunting, requiring a full hard disk format and reinstallation of Windows.

Those who are struggling to afford an upgrade or replacement may find themselves unable to play their EA games, effectively losing access to their purchased titles. Microsoft has excluded Windows 11 from 32-bit compatibility, but users on older versions will need to either upgrade their entire system or replace it entirely to continue playing EA games.
