EA has confirmed that the next Battlefield game is expected to launch during its fiscal year 2026, with a window of April 2025 and March 2026. The company revealed its financial results for the third quarter of its current fiscal year, ending in March 2025, which included an “expected fiscal year 2026 release” for the new game.
The game is being developed by four studios: DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion. DICE is working on multiplayer, while Motive is handling single-player missions and multiplayer maps. Ripple Effect is focusing on bringing in new players to the franchise, and Criterion is developing the single-player campaign.
EA has established a new initiative called Battlefield Labs, which will allow player-driven testing and innovation ahead of the game’s release. The labs will test almost everything but not everything that players see will be complete. Participants will have to agree to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before getting in.
The company is seeking feedback from players on what to prioritize, improve, and refine before release. EA CEO Andrew Wilson has described the project as “one of the most ambitious projects in [EA’s] history,” with a significant investment in the franchise.
The next Battlefield game will return to a modern setting after stints in World War I, World War II, and the near future. The game is expected to feature ship-to-ship and helicopter combat, as well as natural disasters like wildfires. EA has also confirmed that Specialists will not be part of the game, which was a divisive feature in Battlefield 2042.
EA’s efforts to revamp the franchise come after the disappointment of Battlefield 2042, which received criticism for its features and gameplay. The company is seeking to regain player trust with a more focused experience and new ideas to explore within the Battlefield universe.
