EA Origin App Shut Down in April Due to Lack of Microsoft Support

Electronic Arts’ (EA) Origin app will shut down on April 17th due to a lack of Microsoft support for 32-bit software. Launched in 2011, Origin has been widely criticized by PC gamers and users alike. In place of Origin, EA is pushing its EA App, which also requires a 64-bit version of Windows.

Users with older PCs that do not meet the 64-bit requirement will need to upgrade or risk losing access to their game libraries and saved data. However, cloud saves can be automatically transferred across, while games without cloud support will require manual save migration.

To prepare for the shutdown, users are advised to download the EA App on a 64-bit-capable PC with a newer processor if necessary. The transition coincides with EA’s shift in launching its PC games on popular platforms like Steam, including titles such as Dragon Age: The Veilguard and EA Sports FC 25.
