Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that its popular gaming platform, EA Origin, will shut down on April 17, 2025. The decision comes after Microsoft decided to stop supporting 32-bit software, which is the format used by Origin.
As a result, players who use Origin will need to migrate their games and data to EA’s new app, available for download from the company’s website. The EA app requires a 64-bit version of Windows, so players with older operating systems may face challenges when upgrading.
Fortunately, if players are upgrading to a new system or PC, they won’t need to redownload their games. However, users who have cloud saves enabled will automatically have their game data transferred, while those with titles that don’t support cloud saves will need to do it manually.
The news of EA Origin’s shutdown comes as a surprise to some, given the company’s previous statement about phasing out Origin in favor of its newer app. Despite this, EA had announced plans to slowly transition users to the new platform, but it seems the decision has been accelerated due to Microsoft’s change in support policies.
