EA Releases Patch for The Sims 1 + 2 Legacy with Fixed Boot Issues

Electronic Arts (EA) has released a new patch for The Sims 1 + 2 Legacy, addressing various issues that plagued the games upon their launch. The update fixes some fundamental problems, including booting in low resolutions and crashes, which should provide a smoother experience for players.

While some minor issues remain unaddressed, EA’s efforts are a welcome step towards improving these decades-old games. As PC gamers often find excitement in the uncertainty of whether a game will launch without errors or freeze, this patch injects a sense of stability into The Sims 1 and 2 Legacy.

The patch primarily targets use of Alt+Tab and Alt+Enter, fixing problems with crashing, taskbar hiding, and map navigation. It also resolves issues related to startup and resolution scaling in The Sims 2. However, some problems, such as the game launching at a fixed low resolution before scaling up, remain unresolved.

EA notes that some issues may still be under investigation and advises players on performing certain actions to support their games, despite not being designed for it. While this patch is an improvement, players can’t expect a full Nightdive-level makeover for these classic titles, given the relatively low price point of £20-30 each.

The Sims 1 + 2 Legacy’s mixed Steam rating reflects the various problems players encountered upon launch. With this patch, EA has taken steps to alleviate some of those issues and provide a better experience for fans of The Sims series.
