Eagles Coach Defends Jalen Hurts’ Role in Super Bowl Run

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni has addressed the notion that quarterback Jalen Hurts rode the coattails of a talented supporting cast to success during Philadelphia’s 2023-24 season. Sirianni flatly rejected this idea, calling it “bulls—.”

Sirianni praised Hurts for his selflessness and willingness to do whatever it takes to win, citing the quarterback’s impressive performance in key games, including Super Bowl LIX. Despite having a stellar supporting cast, which includes running backs Saquon Barkley, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and an elite offensive line, Sirianni argued that Hurts is not unique compared to other successful quarterbacks.

“What I admire about Jalen is his selflessness,” Sirianni said. “He’s a team player who does whatever it takes to win.” The coach acknowledged the importance of teamwork in football, pointing out that success relies on many factors beyond just individual talent. Sirianni concluded by reiterating that Hurts’ role was not one that can be reduced to simply being along for the ride.
