Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman expressed confidence in star running back Saquon Barkley’s historic season. Roseman, who signed Barkley to a three-year, $38 million deal this offseason, said he is not surprised by the player’s performance. The former Penn State standout became the ninth player to reach 2,000 rushing yards and finished just shy of Eric Dickerson’s single-season record.
Roseman praised Barkley for exceeding expectations, but noted that he has always known about his talent and character. The Eagles’ front office was willing to take a chance on Barkley due to his unique ability to affect the game as a runner, receiver, and pass protector.
The move came as a surprise to some, given the Eagles’ reluctance to sign running backs to lucrative contracts. However, Roseman’s decision paid off with one of the best seasons of all time. Barkley now needs just 30 yards to surpass Terrell Davis for most rushing yards in a single season.
The Eagles and Chiefs will face off in the Super Bowl rematch on Sunday, with the Eagles looking to finally beat their division rivals. When asked about his strategy, Roseman joked that he used to keep a mental list of top teams before every game. Now, the Chiefs are at the top of his mind.
